Formed in 2001, ACDA functions to empower the Agoro community by providing education on relevant social and economic issues, providing a voice for the oppressed and disadvantaged and exchanging information with other local and international humanitarian organizations.
The Computers for Refugees Project for Uganda was founded on a vision of RESPECT International to deliver computer tools to partner organizations that directly service refugee youth. The immediate goal is to deliver to ACDA baseline computer hardware and software for training use and as a general resource to 806 pupils and 9 teachers.
Current Status
- The facility is 6 meters by 4 meters and has sufficient space to accommodate the targeted 12 computers.
- We have requested help from Computer Aid International to obtain computers for the center. Currently, there are 10 Pentium PCs ready for us. The target delivery date is February 29, 2004.
- Decisions have been finalized around the software that will be used for the computers, thanks to Ali Mohammed. We will proceed with RedHatís Linux 9 with OpenOffice.org 1.1, noting this version of the software will not officially be supported after April 2004.
